Committal Shelter Policies & Procedures

The Committal Shelter is located at the front gate of the Sachse Cemetery. The purpose of the Committal Shelter is to provide a comfortable place for family and guests to conduct the committal service.

Purpose. The Sachse Committal Shelter is a designated facility at Sachse Cemetery designed to facilitate respectful and dignified committal services. Its primary purpose is to provide a tranquil environment where families and friends can gather to perform rites associated with interment. The shelter features a covered pavilion located at the cemetery entrance, offering protection from weather conditions such as wind, rain, and sun. This setup ensures that services can be conducted comfortably regardless of weather, supporting the emotional and practical needs of visitors during a sensitive time. The scope of the shelter includes accommodating various ceremonies, providing a respectful setting, and enhancing the overall experience for those attending interment services. Its design emphasizes comfort, dignity, and functionality, making it an integral part of the cemetery's facilities for end-of-life ceremonies. Procedures, Rules & Regulations. The following outlines the procedures and regulations for conducting committal services at Sachse Cemetery, specifically focusing on the logistics of vehicle movement, the roles of pallbearers, and the sequence of events from arrival to interment. 1.Vehicle Entry and Parking: Upon arrival, the funeral coach and family vehicle will proceed directly to the committal shelter. All other vehicles accompanying the funeral procession are required to park in the designated parking area outside the front gate unless instructed otherwise by Sachse Cemetery staff. This ensures organized traffic flow and safety for all attendees. 2.Unloading and Handling of the Casket: The Funeral Director is responsible for unloading the casket from the funeral coach using designated pallbearers or authorized personnel. The casket will be placed on a church truck provided by the funeral home and moved to the front of the committal shelter. Proper handling procedures must be followed to prevent accidents or injuries during this process. 3.Committal Service Procedures: After the committal service, pallbearers will transfer the casket to the back of the committal shelter, where it will be loaded onto the cemetery truck. Only authorized personnel, including pallbearers and cemetery staff, are permitted in this area to maintain safety and order. 4.Transport to Gravesite: The cemetery truck carrying the casket can be moved either by pallbearers or cemetery staff. During this phase, only the Funeral Director, immediate family members (spouse, children), and the informant listed on the death certificate are allowed to accompany the casket. This restriction is in place to ensure safety and proper handling of the remains. 5.Burial and Post-Burial Procedures: Once the casket is interred, remaining participants at the committal shelter are permitted to proceed to the gravesite to meet with the family. Participants may also bring their vehicles into the cemetery and drive to the gravesite, adhering to cemetery traffic rules to prevent accidents. 6.General Safety Guidelines: All personnel involved in the funeral process must adhere to safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques, use of safety equipment, and following instructions from Davis Grave Services and cemetery staff. Unauthorized personnel should not interfere with the handling or transportation of the casket to ensure safety for everyone involved. These rules and procedures are established to ensure a respectful, organized, and safe environment during funeral services at Sachse Cemetery. Compliance with these protocols is essential for the safety of all participants and staff involved in the process. Rules and Procedures for Graveside Burials. Graveside burials, especially those not beginning at the Committal Shelter, are classified as exceptional burial services. These types of burials necessitate specific protocols and safety measures due to the inherent risks involved, such as open graves, adverse weather conditions, and the use of heavy machinery. The following guidelines outline the essential rules and procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and respect during such services. 1.Additional Cemetery Fee: An extra fee applies for graveside burials, which covers specific services and arrangements. 2.Overhead Cover and Seating: The gravesite will not include overhead cover such as tents, nor will there be chairs available at the graveside or elsewhere in the cemetery for this service. 3.Participant Movement and Safety: All participants must stay within the designated area assigned by Sachse Cemetery staff or Davis Grave Services unless instructed otherwise. This ensures safety and order during the service. 4.Documentation Requirements: The Funeral Director is responsible for providing a Waiver and Hold Harmless statement from the requesting family members to the cemetery staff at least 24 hours before the burial. This document is essential for proceeding with the graveside service. 5.Route Designation: The route to and from the open gravesite will be designated solely by Davis Grave Services. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of all individuals present at the gravesite. 6.Grave Closure Procedure: Once the Funeral Director directs the grave to be closed, all participants must move to the designated area and remain there until the grave is fully covered and all machinery has left the site. Afterward, family members and guests may visit the grave to pay their respects. Movement Restrictions: All movement around the open gravesite is strictly controlled and directed by Davis Grave Services. No exceptions are permitted to this rule, emphasizing the importance of safety and order during the process.
